Based at Shoreham Airport in modern well-equipped offices, Pooleys Flying Instructor School (PFIS) is a centre of excellence, dedicated to the sole purpose of providing top quality training for flying instructors.
The School is a well established training facility building a reputation as one of the finest instructor schools in the UK. Dorothy Saul-Pooley has personally conducted nearly 200 instructor courses. The majority of PFIS students gain a Merit or Distinction level pass and usually have little or no difficulty securing an instructing position, frequently before they have completed the course. Many students have been so impressed with the standard of training that they have returned for additional advanced training and have never hesitated to recommend the school to friends and acquaintances.
PFIS provide training for the basic “Flying Instructor (Restricted)” licence, Night Instructor, Instrument Instructor, Aerobatic Instructor and Multi-engine Piston Instructor (MEP). In addition PFIS provide Flight Examiner tests for Initial issue, Revalidation and Renewal of the following:-
Using all the latest equipment and facilities the ground school is second to none. Students are provided with the requisite books and syllabus in a convenient flight bag together with additional material as a course progresses. The light and airy classrooms include Power Point equipment, OHPs with a huge library of content from the PPL syllabus, wall posters, flip charts and white boards, as well as a full history of reference manuals. Computers are available for student use or alternatively students may prefer to use their own laptop PCs and connect to the PFIS Wi-Fi network.
PFIS provide training on a variety of single and multi-engine aircraft ranging from Cessna 152s, where cost is paramount, to PA28 Warriors and Archers, a Bulldog for aerobatics and spinning, to the latest Glass Cockpit Diamond DA 40 and DA 42. These aircraft are equipped and maintained to the highest standard ensuring student satisfaction and a rewarding experience. In addition Pooleys Flying Instructor School provide training on an advanced DA42 Twin Star FNPTII simulator with full external graphics. These aren’t just simulators, they are like the real thing at half the cost.
To ensure continuity of training, PFIS school utilise two full time FIC Instructors, one of whom is also an FIE (Flying Instructor Examiner). In addition there are a number of part-time instructors who are able to assist with various elements of the training. Finally should circumstance demand, there are additional FIEs who will come to Shoreham to carry out Instructor tests eliminating the need to travel to an unknown airport or environment. We do everything in our power to make the training experience memorable and enjoyable. We never forget that we are only successful if our students are successful.
